A Letter To Myself

Posted by

Hey Doreen,

How are you doing? How is the new year so far? Any better than 2017? How are those 2018 resolutions coming along? Hope you are ticking them away one by one slowly…

What a year 2017 was huh! You sure went through some pretty tough times but you are still standing!  Had it not been your faith in the Lord though, you would have lost it, so hold on to your God tightly hun, He is closer than a brother, a sister or a friend and He is your ever-present help in times of trouble. He was there for you when no one else was, He wiped your tears, He lifted you up when you were down, He comforted you and gave you peace. He has been faithful even when you weren’t.

Two biopsies on the same boob, Issues with the kidneys, eye problems, relationship break ups, the passing of a close friend, among other things, but you still kept your head up and you were there for your friends who needed you and managed to run two official races to raise funds for charitable organisations, you fought tears around people and put on a brave face when all you wanted to do was curl up and cry your eyes out…. Girl, you are an amazing woman! We thank God the biopsy results turned out to be benign on both occasions, your eyes have Improved, your kidney issues are a thing of a past and we trust the Lord to heal your broken heart and bless you with people only with good intentions for you.

2018 didn’t exactly start on a very positive note but you are here my darling, taking it one day at a time. I know! I know! Being Doreen is not easy sometimes but you are tougher than you know, so this year too, you are going to be just fine, come what may because your God has already gone before you to pave a way for you and whatever lies ahead of you, He will be right there by your side, so do not be afraid.

Right now you are going through something that makes you wonder if God is even listening to your prayers because He seems far away but He is right there with you and He will see you through this. This too shall pass…He makes all things beautiful in His time!

Don’t be to hard on yourself, you are a good and kind person and sometimes people take advantage of your kindness, don’t beat yourself up on it, it only says a lot about the kind of people they are. Do not get tired of doing good because there are people out there who cares a whole lot about you and appreciate all you do for them, so don’t let the few bad experiences with bad people harden your heart.

Take good care of yourself and do the things that make you happy and brings you joy. Take a long walk in the a park, go for a run, give yourself a pedicure or a manicure, a facial, read a good book or binge on chick flicks on NETFLIX. Your happiness comes from within, don’t wait for someone else to make you happy.

Despite what you are going through or how you are feeling, look yourself in the mirror every morning and tell yourself, I am beautiful, I am strong, I am lovable, I am worth it and I deserve all the great things this world has to offer!

Post these affirmations everywhere in the house where you can see them, they will keep you from saying negative things about yourself when you are feeling low or having a pity party.

Hang in there, the best is yet to come, God isn’t finished with you yet, He is doing a new thing in your life, just hold on.

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord”.

Jeremiah 29:11-14

Stay blessed!

  2. Thank you for sharing your struggles so candidly in this post! As I read this letter to yourself, I can feel how you are pushing to manifest positivity in your life. I love that you included that “Your happiness comes from within,” because it is a fact many are quick to overlook. Life will throw many challenges at us, how they impact us is dependent on our reaction. Not to say it cannot be trying, but we choose to be defeated or push through. Keep your patience and faith, the payoff will be far more beautiful than you can imagine 🙂

  5. This is like a journal entry and you are very courageous because you shared it with us. Life happens but we move forward. Putting it in writing is a form of therapy and helps you connect with others who may share similar but unique stories. I’m glad to see that you won’t be broken no matter what !🙏🏽

  7. I hope you come back to this essay often and remind yourself of all of these beautiful pieces of encouragement you wrote down. Look at how you came through last year, I’m sure whatever you face this year doesn’t stand a chance either. I love the advice to not be too hard on yourself or let other people dim your shine. Take care of yourself!

  8. I honestly started crying through this. YOU are so strong for going through all of this and still keeping your head on your shoulders. I love the verse you put at the end, it’s one of the ones that have kept me going throughout the years.
