Green Detox Smoothie

I love smoothies, especially in the summer when the weather is nice and warm (if you live in Belgium, that could only be a few warm days lol).

After the excessive indulgence during Christmas holidays, I needed to detox. I always do that at the beginning of the year.

The fitness group I follow on Facebook suggested doing this celery, parley,  cucumber and pineapple smoothie but I tweaked it a bit by adding lemon and ginger for the yummy taste and of course for the health benefits.

Parsley: helps keep cardiovascular diseases at bay, helps strengthen the bones, It has anti-inflammatory properties

Ginger: Improves digestion, helps in the treatment of headaches and migraines. It also helps fight nausea associated with migraine headaches. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used for treatment of heartburn .

Lemon: improves digestion, boosts the immune system, helps maintain a healthy weight and helps cleanse the body

Cucumber: helps control blood pressure, it’s a natural hydrant for skin, helps prevent constipation and kidney stones, helps maintain a healthy weight, prevents inflammation

Celery: Is high in Vitamin C, therefore promotes a healthy immune system, it helps lower high blood pressure, helps lower cholesterol, has anti-inflammatory properties, aids in weight loss and contains coumarin which is effective in the prevention of cancer

Pineapple: helps to prevent cancer, strengthens bones, helps with digestion and  it’s high in vitamin B1 thiamine which helps in energy production

These are but a few health benefits, I am sure there are more…

If you overindulged during the Christmas holidays and you are looking for a natural way to detox, try this recipe and drink a lot of water with slices of lemon, you will thank me later.

INGREDIENTS

1 Cup Pure Pineapple Juice

I Celery stalk (chopped)

2 Cups cucumber (chopped but not peeled)

I tbsp. Freshly squeezed lemon Juice (Optional)

1 Inch fresh ginger (grated) (Optional)

1/3 cup parsley

DIRECTIONS

Blend all the ingredients together and serve.
