Daily Prompt: Study: No dream or passion is too small, just go for it!

Posted by

I’ve always admired people who rave about their jobs and how much they love doing what they do because it doesn’t feel like a job. I prayed to God to give a job that I would be passionate about, that wouldn’t only bring joy and happiness to me but one that  would be a blessing to others too.

A few years ago, I started volunteering for Serve The City, an organisation which shows kindness in practical ways to people in need. I volunteered to do manicures, pedicures and facials for women in homeless shelters and refugee centres and It felt great making them feel good about themselves even if it was just for a day. I volunteered for a while and I had so much fun doing it, so I decided to do a course because I felt like this is something I wanted do regularly.

All the courses I found in Belgium were either in French or Dutch but I wasn’t motivated to study in either language. My friend told me about a distance learning school she was studying at and told me to check it out. I did and I decided I would do BEAUTY THERAPY, which included pedicures, manicures, make-up, facial treatments, waxing etc. I am enjoying the course and I practice on friends every chance I get. I hope to finish the course by mid next year, God willing. I can’t wait to start volunteering again but this time with more confidence in myself.

Whenever I have time and money, I take advantage of the workshops organised by Pierre-Antoine Vettorello, fashion designer and Creative Director of Make-up and Brunch in Brussels, Belgium. The workshops are a great way to develop my make-up and beauty skills, they are really  helping with the practical part of my course  and so far, I’ve done two workshops:

  • We did a Flawless skin and portrait workshop – we learnt the basic techniques on using eyeliner and contouring to transform our features and had a photo shoot for our professional profile and social media photo.

  • Then we did the contouring workshop, where we learnt about skin care, make-up techniques and colours that best suits our skin tones.

I will be practicing my skills with these simple and basic steps that I learnt:

  • Moisturise
  • Apply a Primer
  • Foundation
  • Concealer (cream)
  • Contour
  • Powder to set
  • Blush
  • Highlight powder
  • Setting spray
Loved the natural look because I like less make-up on me

I’ve really enjoyed the workshops, they are so much fun and also a great way to socialise and meet new people. In my contouring workshop, I met two friends, Alice from Rwanda and Anca from Romania and we are planning to do workshops together.

I can honestly say now that I have found something that I am very passionate about that I can hopefully turn into my dream job. My dreams are valid!

Don’t let anyone discourage you from pursuing your dreams or passions, no matter how small they may appear to others. There are still some friends who think BEAUTY THERAPY is not career enough, they keep telling me to do other studies they think are better but my heart is set on this one and this is what I am going to do and I know that the Lord who blessed me with creative hands, will make this one as big for me as He sees fit.
